Well, start with at least an extra 80 pounds to lose I guess. But that’s kinda given- right? No seriously as the pandemic set in, I was gung-ho on the latest Guns, Buns and Abs challenge floating around Facebook. You know the ones. By the end of the month you are up to 600 squats a night… yeah. That was a bit much. Haha but for realz now. I got big when I had my last child at 37. Surrounded by negative energy, I propelled into fat life at warp speed. Damn those mini candy bars- so freakin tasty from the freezer. And you know sugar feeds sugar addictions… so the rest is a blend of candy bars and Mikes Hard Lemonades on the daily. Here’s the tips to lose the weight I can offer and what actually worked for me.
1. Use the technology. Apps can synch to your fitness watch (yes go get one now!) and track your movements in conjunction with your food intake. I liked the Lose-It App. I could pull up yesterdays meals and add my daily intake easily. I literally did not eat something because I did not want to log it. Guess I wasn’t hungry for it. But seriously, log your food and use the technology we all carry around in our hands everyday to your advantage.
2. Move your arse. Yep. Like over and over. Sometimes at night I would walk the hallway just to meet a daily goal. You’d be amazed at the energy that grows from simply moving. Inertia is real folks. And it applies to our bodies.
3. Make consistent choices. Find healthy options that leave you feeling satisfied. For me, burger salads; cauliflower crust white pizza; seltzer 100 calorie drinks for the nights where I needed a good nightcap. Be consistent in your choices, your pallet will change and the new choices become new cravings.
4. Be patient. Change can be painful and take time. I refused to log any weight fluctuations that went up… wrong. Wrong direction. Wrong attitude. Wrong chart line. I only logged my down scale. That visual line consistently declining over 18 months was a real mental boost. The technology allows you to track, the methodology can help motivate, the success is seen in many ways.
